# What is Syscoin Mainnet?

Syscoin NEVM Mainnet is a **Layer 1 hybrid blockchain** that combines Bitcoin’s security (via merge-mined UTXO chain) with [Ethereum](https://talk.markets/t/ethereum-erc-20-cheatsheet/270?silent=true)’s smart contract capabilities (via its EVM layer).
